The Coal Creek Trail is a 14-mile long mostly unpaved pathway that goes through the open spaces of Boulder County alongside Coal Creek. The trail goes past Erie, Lafayette, Louisville and Superior. The trail offers beautiful views of the Flat Irons and the Indian Peaks mountain Range. There are miles of trail with no road crossings and an opportunity to experience the natural areas of Boulder County.

The north end of the trail is located at Reliant Park on the north side of Erie. The trail heads to the south through natural areas between residential neighborhoods and past the Erie Municipal Airport. The trail also connects to local trails in Broomfield in this area.

The trail continues through the open space on the south side of Lafayette and Louisville. The trail tucks under U.S. 36 and McCaslin Boulevard and ends at the south end of S. 3rd Avenue in Superior. At this point, it connects to hiking trails that head off into the grasslands at the base of the foothills of Boulder County.
