The MCT Nickel Plate Trail is a 28.7-mile long paved path located in Madison County in Southeastern Illinois. The trail extends from the community of Pontoon Beach to the community of New Douglas. The trail goes through residential areas and cross county across open farmland and wooded areas. The trail goes through the communities of Glen Carbon, Edwardsville and Alhambra and intersects several other recreational trails along the route.

The MCT Nickel Plate Trail is part of the Madison County Transit system of recreational trails.

Conditions

The MCT Nickel Plate Trail is paved for the entire route and is open for non-motorized use such as bike riding, running and walking.

MCT Nature Trail: the two trails meet near Old Edwardsville Road, just north of State Route 162 in Granite City and again at a point west of Plum Street near 1st Avenue in Edwardsville.

MCT Ronald J. Foster Heritage Trail: the two trails meet south of Main Street near Citizen Park in Glen Carbon.

MCT Goshen Trail: The two trails meet at a point west of Plum Street near 1st Avenue in Edwardsville.

MCT Quercus Grove Trail: The two trails intersect at E. Schwartz Street ant Springer Avenue in Edwardsville.

End Points

The southwest end of the MCT Nickel Plate Trail is located at Old Edwardsville Road and Highway 162 in Pontoon Beach. This point is very close to the MCT Nature Trail.

The northeast end of the MCT Nickel Plate Trail is located at S. Main Street in the small community of New Douglas on Highway 54.
