The SR-56 Bike Trail is a 10.5-mile long route with a paved pathway located along California State Route 56, just east of Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve in the northern portion of San Diego. The trail is adjacent to the freeway, but there are long stretches without road crossings.

The trail connects to the many hiking trails in this area and goes through the natural areas along the way.

Conditions

The SR-56 Bike Trail is paved and there are long stretches with few road crossings. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. Most of the trail is located off street with a short section where trail users will ride along Asuza Street to reach the next section of the trail. At the east end, the trail is adjacent to Ted Williams Parkway.

There is a 542 foot gain in elevation over the entire route.

The SR-56 Bike Trail is located entirely in the San Diego city boundaries going past the neighborhoods of Torrey View Estates, Carmel Valley, Palacio Del Mar, Costa Del Sol West, Torrey Santa Fe, Milazzo and Carmel Mountain Ranch.
