Fargo is located on the eastern edge of the State of North Dakota, right along the Red River of the North. Moorhead is on the east side of the Missouri, in the State of Minnesota.Fargo is the largest city in North Dakota, is the business and cultural center and hove to North Dakota State University.

The two communities have a large network of paved recreational trails for getting about town, to work, to school or for some healthy exercise. Many of the major roadways have a wide paved bike path along one or both sides for a safer way to get about town by cycling. There are also several sections of trails along the Red River of the North that go through the parks. In both cities, there are local neighborhood trails that wander through the residential neighborhoods.

Recreational Trails along the Red River

The two cities have an extensive system of recreational trails along the banks of the Red River. These trail systems comprise of the Fargo Mickelson / Tricorn Bike Path, the Lindenwood Bike Path, and the Moorhead River Corridor Trail.

The trails are mainly located to either side of Main Avenue and near the downtown areas of the two cities. The trails goes through several local parks, past athletic fields, forested areas and adjacent to residential neighborhoods.

There are several bridges in this area for cyclists and pedestrians to cross from one side of the Red River to the other. Parking for the trails is available in the numerous local parks along their routes.

Another section of the Fargo Mickelson / Tricorn Bike Path is located on the north side of Fargo to either side of 40th Avenue North.
