Johnson City is located along the Watuga River at the base of the Great Smoky Mountains in Eastern Tennessee. This area of Tennessee is home to Eastern Tennessee State Univerisity. Other communities in the area include Elizabethton, Pine Crest, Austin Springs, Asbury and Erwin.

Tweetsie Trail

The Tweetsie Trail is a 9.8-mile long paved pathway that starts on the eastern side of Johnson City, wraps around Elizabethton. The trail travels under Highway 321, through rural residential areas, past golf courses, and then follows W. G Street, W. Elk Avenue, and State Line Road through the heart of Elizabethton.

The Tweetsie Trail goes past the following points of interest:

The northwest end of the Tweetsie Trail is located along Legion Street at Alabama Street in Johnson City. There is a parking area at this location.

The southeast end of the trail is located along State Line Road at the intersection with Bob Little Road in Elizabethton.

Millennium Trail

The Millennium Trail is a 1.5-mile long paved pathway located along W. State of Franklin Road in Johnson City. The west end of the trail is at Mountain Home Drive near the campus of the East Tennessee State University. The east end of the trail is at Buffalo Street near Founders Park and the downtown area of Johnson City.

Erwin Linear Trail

The Erwin Linear Trail is a 4-mile long paved pathway located in the Town of Erwin, 12 miles southwest of Johnson City on Interstate 26. The trail runs parallel to Interstate 26, along the North Indian Creek and Nolichucky waterways in the town. The trail includes wooded areas, natural ponds, wetlands and mountain views. Other amenities on the Erwin Linear Trail including night lighting, restrooms, benches and docks for fishing.
