The Upper Tampa Bay Trail consists of two separate sections of paved pathways located to the north of Old Tampa Bay on the northwest side of the Tampa Metro Area in Central Florida. The southern section is 6.3 miles long and the northern section is 4.4 miles long with a 2.5 mile long gap along Gunn Highway.

The route of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail includes the greenspace alongside Channel A and Rocky Creek, residential neighborhoods, a number of schools and local parks, a pedestrian overpass for crossing Gunn Highway, the commercial area around Westfiled Citrus Park and long stretches of natural areas away from streets with no cross traffic.

The north end of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail meets up with the 42-mile long Suncoast Trail that follows alongside the Suncoast Parkway to the north as far as Homosassa.

Conditions

The Upper Tampa Bay Trail is paved the entire way. There are relatively few road crossings and underpasses or overpasses for many of the crossings. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. There is a 2.5 mile gap between the two sections along Gunn Highway and this stretch does not have a designated bike lane or  wide shoulders.

Suncoast Trail: the two trails meet at the north end of the northerly section of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail. This location is to the northwest sector of the interchange between W. Lutz Lake Fern Road and the Suncoast Parkway in Odessa.

End Points

The southerly section of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail is 6.3 miles in length. The south end of this section is located at Memorial Highway and Montague Street in Tampa. The north end of this section is located along Copeland Road, just east of Gunn Highway in Odessa. This section also has several branches that head off into the local residential neighborhoods.

The northerly section of the Upper Tampa Bay Trail is 4.4 miles long. The south end of this section is located along Van Dyke Road just east of Gunn Highway in Odessa. the north end of this section is located at the northwest sector of the interchange between W. Lutz Lake Fern Road and the Suncoast Parkway in Odessa.
