Regional Trails

Leesburg is a historic city located near the Potomac River in Northern Virginia about 32 miles from the heart of Washington D.C.

The city has a number of local recreational trails that wander through the residential neighborhoods, there are also wide side paths along some of the major roadways. The Washington & Old Dominion Trail is a regional recreational trail that goes through the middle of the city.

Washington & Old Dominion Trail

The Washington & Old Dominion Regional Park is the park that encompasses the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. The trail is a 45-mile paved pathway that extends from the heart of Arlington to the City of Purcellville in Northern Virginia. The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way and connects several other local communities along its route. Arlington is located just across the Potomac River from Washington D.C. This area has numerous recreational trails that take trail users past many historical sites.

The Washington & Old Dominion Trail is paved for its entire route and open for non-motorized use such as bike riding and walking. Much of the trail is located in urban areas and is a very popular trail for families. commuters and tourists. The grades are fairly level.

The trail goes right through the heart of Leesburg, passing Leesburg Elementary School, Loudoun County High School, Kincaid Forest, Tuscarora Creek Park. The trail connects with local trails near Foxbridge Park, where there is a small parking area. There is also parking at Tuscarora Creek Park with an access path to the Washington & Old Dominion Trail.
