Blacksburg is located at the foot of the Appalachian Mountains in Montgomery County, Virginia. The town is 26 miles west of Roanoke and is home to Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.

Radford is located along the New River to the southwest of Blacksburg.

Huckleberry Trail

The Huckleberry Trail is a 7.5-mile long paved pathway that stretches between the N. Franklin Street near Oak Tree Boulevard to a mile north of Prices Forks Drive. Another 1.3-mile long section exists near Glade Road, Heritage Park, and Meadow Brook Drive to the north of Blacksburg.

The Huckleberry Trail goes past commercial areas, residential neighborhoods, the campus for Virginia Tech and also goes through forests and meadows away from traffic.

The Huckleberry Trail goes past the following points of interest:

Trestle bridge over Slate Branch
Virginia Tech campus
Heritage Community Park & Natural Area

New River Trail

The New River Trail is a 2.7-mile long paved pathway located along the river in Radford. The trail connects to the walking paths in Bisset Park and other recreation trails along Sundell Drive and 2nd Avenue.

The trail is located to the east of the Highway 11 bridge over New River.

New River Trail State Park

The New River Trail State Park is a 57-mile long linear park that exists along an abandoned railroad corridor and parallels the river. The unpaved trail travels from Pulaski, roughly 30 miles southwest of Blacksburg, to Galax.

The trail goes through densely forested area, past rural communities and farmland. The trail has a graded natural surface and allows bike riding, hiking and horseback riding. There are two tunnels along the rough and three major bridges.
