Regional Trails

The Northwest Lancaster County River Trail is a 14-mile long paved and unpaved pathway located along the Susquehanna River near Marietta in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The trail is located 18-miles south of Harrisburg. The trail goes through five municipalities as well as through land owned by a number of local governments and agencies.

For the most part, the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail wanders through the natural areas of the bluffs alongside the Susquehanna River. The trail travels through miles of forested areas and passes a few local parks and the towns along the river. Tail users can see the boat traffic along the river and possibly encounter local wildlife.

Conditions

The Northwest Lancaster County River Trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. Portions of the trail are paved with aspahlt and other portions have a surface of crushed stone. There is a gap in the route along the river adjacent to Marietta where trail users will need to use local streets to reach the next section of the trail. The route is located away from traffic and has few road crossings.

Motorized vehicles are prohibited, except to emergency and maintenance vehicles.

Enola Low Grade Trail:  the Enola Low Grade Trail is located 5-miles to the south of the southeast end of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail.

End Points

The northwestern end of the Northwest Lancaster County River Trail is located at S. Front Street and Race Street in Bainbridge.  There is a small parking area and restroom at this location.

 The southeastern end is located along N. Front Street to the south of the Chestnut Street Bridge in Columbia. This point is just east of the Columbia River Park and Columbia Crossing River Trails Center. There is parking at the park.
