Regional Trails

Plymouth is located the the west of Minneapolis. The city has a large networks of recreational trails for bike rides, walking, commuting, running and access for outdoor recreation such as boating and fishing. Many of these trails are part of Minnesota's Three Rivers Park District's Regional Trail system, others follow alongside major roadways, or around lakes and through local parks and there are also many neighborhood trails that wander through the residential areas. Most of the trails in this area are paved.

The regional trails that go through Plymouth are the Luce Line Regional Trail, Luce Line State Trail, Medicine Lake Regional Trail and the Bassett Creek Regional Trail.

Luce Line Regional Trail

The Luce Line Regional Trail is an 8.8-mile long paved pathway that spans between Plymouth and Golden Valley.Much of the trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way and crosses the suburban areas to the west of Minneapolis. The trail goes through residential, commercial and industrial areas, past local parks, lakes and schools, past a number of lakes and connects to other regional recreational trails in this area.

The Luce Line Regional Trail is located on the south side of Plymouth. The trail connects to the Luce Line State Trail at Vicksburg Lane N to the south of County Road 6. From this point the Luce Line Regional Trail heads east going past Parkers Lake and Medicine Lake. On the east side of Medicine Lake, the trail intersects the Medicine Lake Regional Trail. The Luce Line Regional Trail continues to the east, going through Golden Valley and eventually connecting to the Grand Rounds trail at Theodore Wirth Park on the west side of Minneapolis.

Luce Line State Trail

The Luce Line State Trail is a 63-mile long paved and unpaved trail that is situated along an abandoned railroad bed. It extends from the small community of Cedar Mills out on the prairie to the City of Plymouth. West of Plymouth, the Luce Line State Trail crosses mile upon mile of open agricultural land, goes through tall grass prairie and wooded areas and goes through several farming communities.

The Luce Line State Trail is located in the southwestern part of the Plymouth area. The trail connects to the Luce Line Regional Trail at Vicksburg Lane N then heads southwest going past Gleason Lake.

Medicine Lake Regional Trail

The Medicine Lake Regional Trail is a 15.6-mile long paved pathway that extends from the south end of Medicine Lake in Plymouth to the  Elm Creek Park Reserve in Maple Grove to the north. The Medicine Lake Regional Trail travels through natural areas adjacent to residential neighborhoods and commercial centers. The trail connects with several other recreational trails along its route. There are a number of schools, local parks and lakes along the route of the trail as well.

In Plymouth, the Medicine Lake Regional Trail intersects the Luce Line Regional Trail at 13th Avenue N on the south side of Medicine Lake. The trail heads to the north wrapping around the east side of the lake and going through Clifton French Regional Park. On the north side of Plymouth, The Medicine Lake Trail follows alongside Northwest Boulevard, Schmidt Lake Road and Cheshire Parkway before heading north into Eden Prairie.

Bassett Creek Regional Trail

Bassett Creek Regional Trail is a paved pathway that is located along 36th Avenue N on the east side of Plymouth. The trail has two separate completed sections. The northwest section is 2.4-miles long and extends into the community of New Hope. The other completed section in the community of Crystal.
