The Harmony-Preston State Trail is an 18-mile long paved trail that connects the Root River State Trail with the communities of Preston and Harmony in Southeastern Minnesota. The trail wanders through the beautiful Minnesota countryside, passing farms and woodlands. The trail follows alongside the South Branch Root River and Camp Creek well away from roads and traffic.
Conditions
The Harmony-Preston State Trail is paved the entire route. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. The trail is very rual and has few road crossings.

Root River State Trail: the two trails meet to the north of Preston and between the communities of Fountain and Lanesboro.
Preston-Forestville State Trail: the two trails meet at Preston Trailhead Park. The Preston-Forestville State Trail heads to the west for about 1.75 miles with plans to extend it to Forestville.
End Points and Route Description
The north end of the Harmony-Preston State Trail is located along the Root River State Trail at a point 6.5 miles from the City of Fountain. The Harmony-Preston State Trail heads south from this intersection and meanders alongside the South Branch Root River. It is a 5.5 mile distance between the intersection of the Root River State Trail and the Preston Trailhead. Upon approaching the City of Preston, the trail heads under Highway 52 and heads west over to Preston Trailhead Park. There is parking and a restroom at this park.
After the trailhead, the Harmony-Preston State Trail loops back to the south banks of the river and then crosses County Road 12 before heading south towards the City of Harmony. It is a 12.3 mile stretch between these two communities along the trail. There is a 2 mile long portion of the trail that is relatively steep.
The south end of the Harmony-Preston State Trail is located at the Tourist Information building on 15 2nd Street Northwest in Harmony.
