Regional Trails

The Lake Wobegon Regional Trail is a 49-mile long paved pathway that extends from the City of Osakis to the City of St. Joseph in Central Minnesota. There is also a 13-mile long branch that extends from Albany to 3.8 miles northeast of Holdingford.

This area is located to the northwest of St. Cloud. The trail was constucted on the abandoned railroad bed of the Burlington Northerrn Railroad.  The route of the trail travels through open prairie land, woodlands, wetlands, multiple lakes, past farms, rural communities, schools and local parks.


The Lake Wobegon Regional Trail is paved for the entire route. The trail is a multi-use trail open to cyclists, runnering and walking. In winter is is open to cross country skiing and snowmobiles.

The trail follows alongside county roads for much of the route, though there is a buffer between the road and the trail. Between Albany and St. Joseph, the trail travels away from roads and traffic.


The Lake Wobegon Regional Trail passes through the following communities Osakis, West Union, Sauk Centre, Melrose, Freeport, Albany, Holdingford, Avon and St. Joseph.

End Points

The northwest end of the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail is located at Central Avenue, to the north of Main Street E, in Osakis.

The southeast end of the trail is located at the intersection of Couty Road 75 and 12th Avenue NE in St. Joseph.
