Regional Trails

The Central Lakes State Trail is a 55-mile long paved pathway that extends from Fergus Falls to Osakis in Central Minnesota. The trail was built on an abandoned railroad bed as part of the Rails-to-Trail Conservancy. The route of the trail takes you through open prairie grassland, farmland, wetlands and forested areas. It goes past numerous lakes and through small communities.

The Central Lakes State Trail passes through 3 counties and connects several communities along the way. It also connects to the Lake Wobegon Regional Trail in Osakis which extends as far as St. Joseph just west of the City of St. Cloud. Much of the route of the trail follows alongside Route 82. Fergus Falls is located on Interstate 94, 50 miles northwest of Alexandria.

Conditions

The Central Lakes State Trail is paved the entire route. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. Snowmobiles are allowed during months with snow.

Lake Wobegon State Trail: the southeast end of the Central Lakes State Trail connects to the Lake Wobegon State Trail in Osakis at Central Avenue to the north of Main Street E.

End Points

The northwest end of the Central Lakes State Trail is located along Route 210, just west of 19th Street in Furgus Falls. Local recreational trails within the town lead to the trailhead.

The south east end is located at Central Avenue to the north of Main Street E in Osakis.
