Regional Trails

Traverse City is located at the southern tip of the two arms of Traverse Bay in Northern Michigan.

Traverse Area Recreation Trail

Traverse City has a paved pathway that extends from Fulton Park on Carter Road to Bunker Hill Road. The trail goes past several parks, the marina, Downtown Traverse City and along the shoreline of the bay.

Boardman Riverwalk Trails

Within the center of Traverse City, there is a network of paved walkways and boardwalks that follow alongside the Boardman River between Boardman Lake and the West Arm Grand Traverse Bay. The trails go past several parks withing the downtown area.

The Boardmand Riverwalk Trail system connects to the Traverse Area Recreation Trail at Grandview Parkway and to the Boardman Lake Trail system.

Boardman Lake Trail

The Boardman Lake Trail wraps around the northern and eastern shore of the lake to the south of the downtown area.

Leelanau Trail

The Leelanau Trail is a 17-mile long paved pathway that stretches between Suttons Bay and Traverse City in Northern Michigan. The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad corridor and goes through a beautiful area of Michigan. The route of the trail travels along the shoreline of Suttons Bay, past hardwood forests, open farmland, orchards, vineyards and ponds. 

The Leelanau Trail meets up with the Traverse Area Recreatonal Trail at Carter Road near Fulton Park.
