Regional Trails

The William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail is a 22-mile long paved pathway that stretches between the communities of Hart and Montague in Western Michigan. The trail is an approximately 52-mile drive from Downtown Grand Rapids and about 16 miles from the middle of Muskegon. The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad corridor and goes past open farmland, dense forests and a number of small communities. When combined with the Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail, the trail system extends to the north side of the City of Muskegon.

Conditions

The William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail is paved for the entire route and is open for bike riding and hiking. Snowmobiles are allowed during winter months.

Communities

The William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail goes past the following Western Michigan communities: Hart, Shelby, New Era, Rothbury, Whitehall and Montague.

End Points

The north end of the trail is located at the intersection of N. Water Street and Wood Street in the community of Hart, 1.25 miles east of Highway 36. there is a trailhead with parking and a restroom on W. Polk Road, just east of N. 72nd Avenue. In the community of Shelby, there is a trailhead with restroom and parking on W. 3rd Street, west of State Street.

On the north side of White Lake in Montague, the trail splits. The west branch ends at Whitbeck Road near Industrial Park Drive. The east branch goes past the marinas and ends at W. White Lake Drive. Trail users can continue on the Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail at this location.

The south end of the William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail is located on W. White Lake Drive and Cogswell Avenue on the south side of Montague. The Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trai acts as an extension to the 22-mile long William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail at this point.

Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail

The Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail is a 7-mile long paved trail that is located south of Montegue in Western Michigan.

The north end of the Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail is located on W. White Lake Drive and Cogswell Avenue on the south side of Montague. The trail acts as an extension to the 22-mile long William Field Memorial Hart-Montague Trail at this point.

The south end of the Fred Meijer Berry Junction Trail is located at W. Mc Millan Road in the north side of the City of Muskegon.
