The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail is a 22-mile system of paved pathways, dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian pathways that extend throughout much of the area around Kalamazoo in Southwestern Michigan.

The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail trail system has one continuous section that wanders through the natural areas and parks along the Kalamazoo River, residential neighborhoods and commercial areas, with several crossings over the Kalamazoo River. This continuous section just over 16 miles long and stretches from Cooper Township to Downtown Kalamazoo then heads east to travel through Comstock Township and ends on the western outskirts of Galesburg.

Another branch of the Kalamazoo River Valley Trail consists of signed bike and pedestrian routes through the Downtown Kalamazoo area, and two stretches of paved pathways that head off to the northwest side of the city. The pathway connects to the Kal-Haven Trail at a point along 10th Street North. The Kal-Haven Trail State Park is 33-miles long and reaches South Haven on Lake Michigan.

Conditions

The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail is paved for the entire route. There are sections of dedicated bike lanes and pedestrian pathways. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking.

Much of the trail is located away from streets and many of the intersections with streets have underpasses. There are sections of the trail that follow alongside major roadways.

End Points

The Kalamazoo River Valley Trail has a continuous section that starts along D Avenue E, 0.7-miles east of N, Westinedge Avenue. The southeastern end of this continuous section is located along S. 35th Street in Galesburg.

The other sections of the trail are located on the northwest side of Downtown Kalamazoo. The southeast end is located at N. Westinedge Avenue near W. Kalamazoo Avenue. There is a gap in this section of the trail along Ravine Road. Another 3-mile long section of paved pathway stretches from Ravine Road to a point along 10th Street N to the north of W. H Avenue and west of Highway 131.
