Regional Trails

The Northern Strand Community Trail is a 8-mile long paved pathway that travels through the communities of Everett,  Madlen and Saugus on the north side of the Boston Urban area. The trail was constructed along an abandoned railroad right-of-way and takes a couple of big loops through the residential neighborhoods and commercial areas. The route takes it past several parks and schools. There are plans to extend the pathway to travel as far as Nahant Boulevard in Lynn.

The west end of the trail is located on the banks of the Mystic River near the Gateway Center shopping center.

Conditions

The Northern Strand Community Trail is paved and open for bike riding, walking and running. The trail goes through populated areas with many street crossings.

Mystic River Reservation Paths: The west end of the Northern Strand Community Trail is across the Malden River from the Mystic River Reservation, a large natural area along the banks of the river. There are a number of pathways at this location. Revere Beach Parkway connects the two trail systems.The Wellington Greenway is also in this area near the Wellington Station.

Sylvester Baxter Riverfront Park Path: The park is across the Mystic River from the west end of the Northern Strand Community Trail. The park can be reach by using the Fellsway bridge.

End Points

The west end of the Northern Strand Community Trail is located on the Mystic River along Mystic View Road to the west of Gateway Center shopping area.

The east end of the trail is located at Lincoln Avenue and Hamilton Street in Saugus.
