The Gary L. Haller National Receration Trail is a 17.5-mile long paved pathway that extends from the Nelson Island on the Kansas River in Shawnee, through the communities of Shawnee and Lanexa to Olathe in Northeastern Kansas. The trail goes through miles of natural area along Mill Creek. The trail follows through Mill Creek Streamway Park, a linear park managed by the Johnson County Park & Recreation District. Along the route, the trail connects to other regional recreational trails and trails within the parks along the way.

Conditions

The Gary L. Haller National Recreation Trail is paved the entire route. The trail is open for non-motorized use such as bike riding, running and walking. Much of the trail goes through the natural areas along the creek away from traffic and development and it has few road crossings.

Mill Creek Streamway Park has picnic shelters, restrooms, some drinking fountains, and parking areas.

Clear Creek Trail: Clear Creek Trail intersects the Gary L. Haller National Recreation Trail at a point north of Shawnee Mission Parkway. Clear Creek Trail extends to the west State Route 7.

Shawnee Mission Park Trail: the Gary L. Haller National Recreation Trail goes through Shawnee Mission Park and intersects the trail within the park that heads to the east and connects to other trails in Lenexa.

Mehaffie Creek Trail: at the south end of the intersects the Mehaffie Creek Trail that heads to the south and extends to E. Kansas City Road.
