Regional Trails

The White River Greenway is a system pf paved trails that stretches for over 8 miles through the heart of Indianapolis. The trail follows the banks of the White River that is located just west of the downtown area. The route takes trail users past several local parks and the White River State Park that has a number of attractions. The trail combines the urban landscape with natural areas and has spectacular views of the downtown skyline. There are lots of bridges and landscaped parks as well as woods and chances to do some sight-seeing of catch a glimpse of the local wildlife and do some bird watching.

Conditions

The White River Greenway is open for non-motorized uses such as bike riding and walking. The trail connects to the Central Canal Towpath in the north and to the Indianapolis Cultural Trail at White River State Park. The trail stretches form E. 38th Street and W. Whiter River Parkway Drive to Lilly Recreation Area on Raymond Street.

Points of Interest

Near the downtown area the White River Greenway goes right past White River State Park. The park is located on the southwest corner of Downtown Indianapolis. There are numerous walking paths, a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over the White River, several museums, the Children's Maze, White River Gardens, the Indianapolis Zoo and the NCAA Hall of Champions.

Nearby Trails

Central Canal Towpath: The north end of the White River Greenway is across the river from the Central Canal Towpath and the two trails meet at W. 30th Street.

Indianapolis Cultural Trail: The White River Greenway intersects the Indianapolis Cultural Trail at White River State Park in Downtown Indianapolis.

Eagle Creek Trail: At the south end of the White River Greenway the Eagle Creek Trail heads to the west along Raymond Street.

End Points

The north end of the White River Greenway is located just south of W. 38th Street on the west side of the White River.

The south end is located at Lilly Recreation Park on Raymond Street, At this location it connects to the Eagle Creek Trail.
