The Air Line State Park Trail is a 53-mile long unpaved pathway that spans between East Hampton and Pomfret in Eastern Connecticut.

The Air Line State Park Trail follows a historic abandoned railroad right-of-way and travels through miles and miles of thick woodlands and past rural communities. The route is that of the rail line between Boston and New York.

A 3.5-mile long branch called the Colchester Spur heads to the south to the middle of Colchester.

Conditions

The Air Line State Park Trail has a graded unpaved surface. The trail is open for bike riding, running and walking. Horseback riding is also allowed on the trail. Much of the route is located away from roadways. There are no fees for the use of the trail.

There are two gaps in the route where trail users will need to use local streets to reach the next section. One very short gap is located at Highway 2 in Amston. The other 3/4-mile long gap is located in Downtown Willimantec. Trail users can use Riverside Drive to connect to the next section.

The trail is in various states of condition and trail users should check with the local authorities about the trail condition while planning your trip.
