Regional Trails

Cortez is located in Montezuma County in the southwestern corner of Colorado. Attractions in this area include Mesa Verde National Park and the Four Corners Monument marking the boundary between Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona.

Cortez has several recreational trails for walking and bike riding.

Cortez Recreation TrailS

There is a system of paved pathways located at Parque De Vida adjacent to the Cortez Recreation Center. This area is located on E. Empire Street and N. Mildred Street. There is also a 1.25-mile long wide paved recreation trail that heads to the north from the park to the Carpenter Natural Area.

Centennial Park

Centennial Park is adjacent to the Parque De Vida and has a paved walking path.

Hawkins Preserve Trail

The Hawkins Preserve Trail is a 1.1-mile long paved pathway that takes a loop between S. Oak Street and W. 7th Street. The trail wanders through the open space and connects to the Ridge Line & Foot Trail.

The nortwest end of the Hawkins Preserve Trail is located at the Mesa Park and Environmental Lab near Mesa Elementary School.

Denny Lake Trail

There is a 0.7-mile long unpaved walking path along Denny Lake on the east side of Cortez. This area includes a pier and an off-leash dog park.
