Modesto is located in the Central Valley of California, a half hour drive south of Stockton. The city is situated along the riverbed of the Tuolome River and surrounded by agricultural land. Modesto has four paved recreational trails for walking, running and bike riding.

Tuolomne River Trail

The Tuolomne River Trail is a 2.5-mile long paved pathway located south of the airport. The pathway makes a loop along the north banks of the Tuolumne River. Parking is available off of Tioga Drive.

Dry Creek Trail

The Dry Creek Trail is a 4.5-mile long paved pathway that wanders through the greenbelt of Dry Creek. the west end of the trail is located at La Loma Avenue and N. Morton Boulevard on the east side of Modesto. The east end is located at Claus Road near Scenic Drive.

The Dry Creek Trail goes past the following points of interest: Kewin Park, Thousand Oaks Park, East La Loma Park, Creekside Golf Course, Riverside Park and Mary Gallo Ranch.

Hetch Hetchy Trail

The Hetch Hetchy Trail is a 2.7-mile long paved path that runs at a diagonal on the north side of Modesto. The meandering trail follows a powerline easement that runs through residential neighborhoods.The west end of the trail is located southeast of the intersection of Standiford Avenue and Sisk Road.

The Hetch Hetchy Trail goes past Chrysler 99 Park on the west end and Wesson Ranch Park on the east end.

Virginia Corridor Trailway

The Virginia Corridor Trailway is a 2.7-mile long paved path that extends from Woodrow Avenue to the intersection of College Avenue and Terminal Avenue. The Virginia Corridor Trailway goes near the following points of interest: Davis Community Park, Whitmore Park, Elihu Beard Elementary School, Roosevelt Park, Roosevelt Junior High School and Modesto Junior College.

Natavidad Creek Trail & Gabilan Creek Trail

The Natavidad Creek TrailGabilan Creek Trail form a 3-mile long paved pathway located in Salinas. The trails take a loop through the natural areas and parks along the creeks. The trails are located to either side of Constitution Avenue and go past Natavidad Creek Park, Virginia Rocco Barton School, Constitution Soccer Complex and the First Tee of Monterey County driving range.
