Fort Smith is located along the Arkansas River in Sebastian County in western Arkansas.

The city has a number of recreation paths for bike riding, running and walking as well and a system of bike lanes along local streets.

Greg Smith River Trail, Belle Point Trails & Fort Smith National Historic Site

The Greg Smith River Trail is a 5-mile long mostly unpaved pathway that is located along the Arkansas River to the northwest of Fort Smith. The trail spans between Belle Point and Williams Lane.

The Greg Smith River Trail is not improved for the most part and is suitable for hiking, trail running and mountain bike riding ony.

The west end of the Greg Smith River Trail is located near Belle Point and the Fort Smith National Historic Site. Belle Point has paved pathways along the banks of the Arkansas River.

Ben Geren Regional Park & Ben Geren Park Byway

Ben Geren Regional Park is maintained by Sebastian County. It is located on the southeast side of Fort Smith. The park has a system of dirt trails for mountain bike riding, athletic fields, and a golf course.

The Ben Geren Park Byway is a paved pathway that leads out of the park to the southeast and wanders through forested areas to join other paved trails along Massard Road.

Wells Lake Trail

Wells Lake is located to the south of Ben Geren Regional Park. The lake has a 1-mile long paved pathway that wraps around the lake.
